According the NSW Health Blue Book, it is recommended that children have a general check-up at the following times:
1-4 weeks old
6-8 weeks old + vaccinations
4 months old + vaccinations
6 months old + vaccinations
12 months old + vaccinations
18 months old + vaccinations
2 years old
3 years old
4 years old + vaccinations
These are general check-ups to make sure that your child is developing as expected and meeting their milestones. If you have any concerns, they can also be checked at any additional time. These regular check-ups help to pick up subtle changes that might otherwise be missed, and mean that your child has the opportunity for early intervention if there are any problems.
Flu vaccine is recommended every year during winter after six months of age, and twice in the first year that a baby received it.
Bexsero, or meningococcal B vaccine, is an optional vaccine that protects against Meningococcal B. I do recommend this vaccine. It is approximately $120 per dose (free for Indigenous children), and you require two doses 8 weeks apart, plus a booster dose at 12 months of age (if the first two doses were given prior to 12 months of age). Please feel free to discuss this with me during consultations if you have any questions.
“I acknowledge the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of this land and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. I especially ACKNOWLEDGE the Dharug people, on whose land my practice is on.
May we all walk together for an Australia grounded in inclusion, equity and healing.”
