This is a common concern for parents with a baby who may be unsettled, have unusual or abnormal stools or is not gaining weight well.
I cannot stress enough the importance of getting a medical review if you are concerned about allergies. Whilst it is tempting to research online and get advice from well-meaning parent support groups, it is easy to fall down a rabbit hole of advice and begin excluding foods from your own diet in an effort to help your baby.
The signs of Cows Milk Protein Intolerance (CMPI) is most likely that your baby has blood in their stools (this often looks like chilli flakes throughout their nappy). Other concerns include unsettled behaviour, excessive vomiting and rashes.
If you feel that this may be affecting your baby, please arrange review with your Breastfeeding Medicine doctor, GP, paediatrician or IBCLC. Removing endless food groups from your diet without appropriate medical supervision may be more harmful than helpful for you, your baby and your milk supply.

May we all walk together for an Australia grounded in inclusion, equity and healing.”
